I’ve been dying to share this for ages… I’m in issue 6 of Love Sewing!!
Look, that’s my project right there on the cover; the Red Riding Hood cape.
I’ve even got my mug shot on the contributors page, which is pretty awesome!
I was also very excited to see this:
Is it a bit sad to be excited by seeing my name there? Well I am anyway!
Here’s a sneaky peek of the finished project, which comes out on 9th October if you want to have a look. (At this point, I’d like to point out that they shouldn’t have included the first two photos, they have nothing to do with the first two instructions! This is partly my fault though, for not naming my photo files better).
So, how did this come about? Well the editor, Helen Mclaughlin, emailed me after the first issue of Love Sewing came out. She’d read my blog, including my review of the first issue, and asked if I’d be interested in contributing any children’s projects. Of course I said yes within seconds! I’d already drafted out this pattern as I made one of these capes for Eleanor for World Book Day, but obviously I had to digitise the pattern (which I’ve never done before!) and re-make it taking step-by-step photos.
I’ve got to say, it was a really enjoyable process, and I feel like I’ve learned quite a bit too. I had no idea how much work went on behind-the-scenes in a magazine, and I hope Helen wasn’t too annoyed by my many emails! I’m really pleased with how the project has turned out and it’s certainly inspired me to write more. In fact, I’m hoping to start drafting a book soon, as crazy as that sounds. It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while, but this project has shown me that I really could do it.
