Screen-printing, sewing and a birthday

Hello! It’s been such a busy couple of weeks here, including my big squish’s 4th birthday, which was a decidedly My Little Pony-themed affair. Totally off topic, but how cool is this pony we had made for her?

Of course we had to have some MLP cakes too:

I just want to thank all of you that have sent me your quilt squares for Project Linus. Look out for proper blog update (with photos) later on this week. I’ve got some lovely blocks to share with you.

The last few weeks have mostly been about doing a lot of sewing and screen-printing for the Mollie Makes Handmade Awards (I didn’t get through) and screen-printing lots of lovely bright unisex t-shirts with a variety of monsters, dinosaurs and robots.

I’ve got to say I’m really enjoying myself at the moment. Sure, I’m doing less sewing than I originally set out to do with Little Squish, but I’m ok with that. I’ve had fun designing these t-shirts and I love printing them! It’s been really nice to get such great feedback from people too; and having two great children’s websites (Itsy Bits Children’s Boutique and Hello Little Rainbow) stock them is just fantastic! There is still a handmade element to Little Squish though; I’ll still be making skirts and dresses like these, so keep checking the shop!

Another thing I’m excited about is that I’ve started working with Junior Style, which is a brilliant shopping portal for independent children’s wear brands. Hurrah!

I’m aware that most of you don’t read my blog for my business updates; you’re more interested in other sewing. I’ll be honest, there’s not been a lot of sewing going on for me. Which makes me a bit sad! I do have a Coco to show you. Wait! Before you yawn because, you know, Coco is so last year and so overdone mine is a teensy bit different because I screen-printed on it. So like or not, that’ll be blogged really soon… when I’ve finished the hem! I also have a dress cut out and ready to go that’s like my London Calling dress but with sleeves. So I promise to get some stuff done and start taking some photos.

I also seem to have some fixing and altering to do. Does anyone do this with their handmade stuff? Annoyingly when I made my sewing themed dress I didn’t have the right size zip, so I put a zip in that was about an inch too short. I didn’t think it would make too much of a difference. Yeah. It did. I’ve managed to rip the bottom of the zip getting the dress on and off so now I’ve got to figure out a way to fix it. I also have to do a quick fix on my London dress because I didn’t finish the seams properly when I attached the skirt to the bodice. This is what you get for rushing things.

In other news, I’m currently lusting after this awesome lobster fabric. I said about two weeks ago that I wouldn’t buy any more fabric after I spent over an hour tidying stuff (and rediscovering things I’d totally forgotten about). But forget that, this would make the best dress (or skirt) for the summer!

What are you sewing for yourself right now?

I seem to be in a bit of a mad sewing frenzy atm. I currently have one oversized tee and a vintage 70’s McCalls shift cut out on my table and a pile of washed fabric sitting on the chair waiting for plans.
I’ll try and get back into blogging with all of these but can’t guarantee anything.
Loving your new screen printed stuff by the way! So tempted to buy my friends little girl something.

Aww thanks 🙂 Yes, get back to blogging, I did wonder where you’d disappeared to! I do find it really hard to set aside time to sew/blog lately but then I guess I shouldn’t complain about being busy with work.
